News Challenge deadline extended to 12/15

We're extending the deadline for applying to the Knight News Challenge by two months, to December 15.

An outside review organization we've been working with thought the contest could benefit from special outreach to communities of entrepreneurs and software developers. We took this advice into consideration and decided to give ourselves a little more time to test this approach.

If you've been prepping your application for a last-minute submission, and you're seeking feedback from others, this is the perfect opportunity to post your idea in the open application category and solicit comments! We've been seeing applicants spreading their idea on Twitter, through Facebook, with custom Web sites, and in other innovative ways.

If you've already submitted your application, now you have more time to solicit feedback and refine it. You can update your application until the December 15 deadline. And don't forget, you might be able to bring more attention your application with a video pitch.

(Corrected 10/14 to reflect the fact that Knight Foundation decided to extend the contest on the recommendation of an outside review organization, not a panel of judges.)
